The City of Hitchcock maintains a strong partnership with College of the Mainland (COM), a leading local institution focused on workforce development and industry collaboration. COM works closely with area businesses to deliver customized training programs tailored to meet evolving industry needs, including short-term credentialing and specialized skill development.
In partnership with Hitchcock ISD, COM also provides students with valuable educational pathways, including:
- Dual credit programs
- Workforce education and certification opportunities
- Tech Prep courses at affordable tuition rates
Since 2019, the Hitchcock Economic Development Corporation (EDC) has partnered with COM to offer the Hitchcock Promise Program, which provides free college tuition for eligible Hitchcock graduates. Galveston College
Galveston College serves the residents of Galveston Island and the surrounding region by providing high-quality academic programs, workforce training, continuing education, and community services. Each semester, approximately 2,300 students are enrolled in credit programs, while nearly 1,400 individuals participate annually in continuing education opportunities.

Texas A&M University at Galveston
Texas A&M University at Galveston (TAMUG) is the island campus of Texas A&M University, dedicated to developing future leaders who are making an impact across the globe. The university serves nearly 2,300 undergraduate and graduate students each year, offering specialized programs in marine and maritime disciplines that support the growing global “blue economy.”
With roots dating back to 1962 and the founding of the Texas A&M Maritime Academy, TAMUG has a long-standing tradition of excellence. Today, it remains the only maritime academy on the Gulf Coast and has evolved into a premier branch campus focused exclusively on marine and maritime education. The university offers nearly 20 degree programs designed to prepare graduates for careers in industries ranging from ocean engineering and marine biology to maritime transportation and logistics.
The Texas A&M Maritime Academy—one of only six state maritime academies in the nation—provides students with hands-on training and real-world experience. Cadets earn U.S. Coast Guard licenses, enabling them to serve aboard ocean-going and inland vessels, support national security through military service, or pursue careers within the maritime industry worldwide.
