Growth Trends

The Texas Gulf Coast is still booming due to the Emerging and Traditional Industries prospering within our Region. There are also enormous growth opportunities available throughout our Region due to the demand that will be created with the Panama Canal Expansion.


In 2018, Port Houston celebrated the arrival of three new Neopanamax (ship-to-shore) cranes and ten rubber-tired gantry cranes at the Bayport Container Terminal. The new cranes highlight about $100 million in investments and are yet another step to ensure Port Houston is ready for future growth.

Workforce – Hitchcock is in the hub of one of the largest and most advanced industrial labor pools in the country. Within close proximity to the industrial complex along Galveston Bay including the petrochemical complex in Texas City, (approximately 12 miles away) as well as the entire Houston industrial complex along the Houston Ship Channel. The East Harris County Manufacturers Association boasts over 150 members and represents in excess of 380,000 skilled tradesmen. The City of Hitchcock is served directly by the College of the Mainland with their main campus less than 5 miles. College of the Mainland is a comprehensive community and technical college that has been recognized nationwide for their student success and innovative programming in support of the process technology and industrial trade fields.

Based upon the final plan for the project including the projected increase in the local taxes as well as the projected increase in the local workforce the project will be afforded a significant incentive package with offerings from Galveston County, the City of Hitchcock, and the State of Texas.
